Broadband focused waves with compensated spatial dispersion: transverse versus axial balance.

2007

We determine the constraints an ABCD optical system must verify to achieve, at the focal region, broadband waves with compensated spatial dispersion either along the optical axis, called on-axis isodiffracting fields, or in the lateral direction, here named in-plane isodiffracting beams. An optical configuration is identified for generating both types of achromatic broadband focused wave fields. An experimental verification is also provided.

Tensor-product states and local indistinguishability: an optical linear implementation

2000

In this paper we investigate the properties of distinguishability of an orthogonal set of product states of two three level particle system by a simple class of joint measures. Here we confine ourselves to a system of analysis built up of linear elements, such as beam splitters and phase shifters, delay lines, electronically switched linear devices and auxiliary photons. We present here the impossibility of realization of a perfect never falling analyzer with this tools.

<title>Dot-matrix holographic recording in amorphous chalcogenide films</title>

2006

We have developed PC controlled dot-matrix holographic recording system based on the CW diode pumped YAG:Nd SHG laser (wavelength 532 nm, power 30mW,) modulated electronically with TTL signals. Two-beam technique has been used with convergence angle 30o and PC controlled incident beam plane rotation 0-360o. Optical system consists of beam splitter, 40mm focus length forming cylindrical lens and 40mm focusing lens. Characteristic parameters of experimental equipment are following: spot size - 50-200 micrometers, direct laser writing area, limited by x-y positioning system, was 70mm x 70mm, number of writing head rotation positions up to 256 (8 bit), time of each exposure - 1-1000 msec. As th…

Random bit generation through polarization chaos in nonlinear optical fibers

2017

Nowadays, cryptographic applications are becoming of paramount importance in order to guarantee ultimately secure communications. Performances of classical and quantum key distribution and encryption algorithms are strongly dependent on the used Random Number Generator (RNG). A good RNG must produce unpredictable, unreproducible and unbiased sequences of numbers. For this reason, many true random number generators relying on chaotic physical phenomena, such as chaotic oscillations of high-bandwidth lasers [1, 2] or polarization chaos from a VCSEL diode [3], have been developed. In this work, we propose a RNG implementation based on a different physical mechanism than the ones previously use…

Refractive micro-optical elements for surface plasmons: from classical to gradient index optics.

2010

Controlling the propagation of surface plasmons along a metal-dielectric interface is a key feature for the development of surface plasmon based circuits. We have designed various two-dimensional refractive dielectric optical elements for surface plasmons (SP) and characterized their capacity to route SP, using near- or far-field techniques. We first present basic devices analogous to usual optical components and the associated challenges for SP optics. We then use a metamaterial approach to locally vary the refractive index and fabricate gradient index structures for SP circuitry.

Entanglement swapping in a Franson interferometer setup

2007

We propose a simple scheme to swap the non local correlations, characteristic of a Franson interferometric setup, between pairs of frequency entangled photons emitted by distinct non linear crystals in a parametric down conversion process. Our scheme consists of two distinct sources of frequency entangled photons. One photon of each pair is sent to a separate Mach - Zender interferometer while the other photons of the pairs are mixed by a beam splitter and then detected in a Ou - Mandel interferometer. For suitably postselected joint measuremetns, the photons sent at the Mach -Zender show a coincidence photocount statistics which depends non locally on the settings of the two interferometer…

Optical module for single-shot quantitative phase imaging based on the transport of intensity equation with field of view multiplexing

2021

We present a cost-effective, simple, and robust method that enables single-shot quantitative phase imaging (QPI) based on the transport of intensity equation (TIE) using an add-on optical module that can be assembled into the exit port of any regular microscope. The module integrates a beamsplitter (BS) cube (placed in a non-conventional way) for duplicating the output image onto the digital sensor (field of view – FOV – multiplexing), a Stokes lens (SL) for astigmatism compensation (introduced by the BS cube), and an optical quality glass plate over one of the FOV halves for defocusing generation (needed for single-shot TIE algorithm). Altogether, the system provides two laterally separate…

Single-shot slightly off-axis digital holographic microscopy with add-on module based on beamsplitter cube

2019

Slightly off-axis digital holographic microscopy (SO-DHM) has recently emerged as a novel experimental arrangement for quantitative phase imaging (QPI). It offers improved capabilities in conventional on-axis and off-axis interferometric configurations. In this contribution, we report on a single-shot SO-DHM approach based on an add-on module adapted to the exit port of a regular microscope. The module employs a beamsplitter (BS) cube interferometer and includes, in addition, a Stokes lens (SL) for astigmatism compensation. Each recorded frame contains two fields of view (FOVs) of the sample, where each FOV is a hologram which is phase shifted by π rads with respect to the other. These two …

Achromatic fan-out diffractive system for white-light free-space optical interconnects

2001

Abstract A simple and versatile white-light fan-out diffractive system based on the achromatization of the fractional Talbot effect is proposed. This achromatic configuration is able to interconnect a single polychromatic point source with a 2-D array of optoelectronic microdevices with low residual chromatic aberration even for white light. The whole broadband beamsplitter system is formed by two simple diffractive optical elements, a periodic diffractive lenslet array and a diffractive lens, that are made with a direct laser writing technique giving high light efficiency. The focal amplitude distribution corresponding to the lenslet array produces, by free-space propagation, self-replicas…
